Teaching Background and Certifications
After graduating from Kenyon College in 2015 with a double major in English (with an emphasis in Creative Writing) and Modern Languages (French and Russian), I spent a year teaching abroad with the Teaching Assistant Program in France. I lived and worked in Lille, France as an English Language Assistant, collaborating with educators across three primary schools. I taught students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds on topics ranging from basic English conversation to American culture.
I was then accepted to the New York City Teaching Fellows Fall 2016 Cohort. I trained in their rigorous Pre-Service Training program, learning how to become an effective teacher in high-need schools and multicultural learning environments. I also obtained my Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the City College School of Education.
I currently work at the Bronx Latin School in the Morrisania neighborhood in the South Bronx. I teach 6th-grade English Language Arts (ELA) to an average of 60 students per year in general education and integrated co-teaching (ICT) settings, and provide differentiated instruction in a composite stand-alone ENL class for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. I developed and implemented a new 6th-grade ELA curriculum aligned to New York State standards, including high-interest texts, writing instruction, and literacy skill building. I supervised a middle school reading intervention project using HMH Read 180. I also assist in the coordination of identification, placement, and assessment of newly enrolled multilingual learners, and administer NYSITELL and NYSESLAT assessments and support compliance with state-mandated requirements. I was chosen as the first School Wellness Ambassador by school leadership, and I speareheaded the rollout of Brain Power Wellness and promote schoolwide social-emotional learning initiatives.
