Teaching Background and Certifications

After graduating from Kenyon College in 2015 with a double major in English (with an emphasis in Creative Writing) and Modern Languages (French and Russian), I spent a year teaching abroad with the Teaching Assistant Program in France. I was then accepted to the New York City Teaching Fellows Fall 2016 Cohort. I trained in their rigorous Pre-Service Training program and obtained my Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the City College School of Education.

I currently work at the Bronx Latin School in the Morrisania neighborhood of the Bronx. I teach 6th-grade English Language Arts (ELA) in both general education and integrated co-teaching (ICT) settings and a stand-alone English as a New Language (ENL) composite class of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I created a new 6th-grade ELA curriculum that is aligned to state standards and includes high-interest texts, on-demand writing, and daily skill-building activities. I spearheaded the schoolwide rollouts of the reading intervention and language acquisition curriculum HMH Read 180 and the social-emotional learning program Brain Power Wellness. I also facilitate the English Language Learner identification process for newly admitted students

Previously, I taught 7th-grade push-in, pull-out, and stand-alone ENL at IS 281 Joseph B Cavallaro in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. I designed a modified 7th-grade ENL curriculum for stand-alone classes based on the school’s existing 7th-grade ELA curriculum. I also assisted in programming schedules to ensure all ENL students met state-mandated service requirements.

I am certified to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (Grades K-12) and English Language Arts (Grades 5-9) in New York State. I am also a Brain Power Wellness Certified Teacher Leader.
